Key Category Analysis of Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Analytical process to identify the sources of greenhouse gas emissions that have the most significant impact on the country’s total emissions.

Key Category Analysis of Greenhouse Gas Emissions (KCA)

This process involves prioritizing key categories of activities that generate significant greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and have a substantial impact on the national GHG inventory. The prioritization is based on both absolute levels of GHG emissions and observed emission trends, which are essential for enhancing the effectiveness of GHG inventory management. These insights support the optimization of resource allocation, the development of robust inventory systems, and the implementation of reliable data management, quality assurance, and quality control (QA/QC) mechanisms. Furthermore, this approach strengthens the integrity of the national GHG inventory by promoting improvements in transparency, accuracy, consistency, comparability, and completeness. It also informs strategic planning and the definition of targeted mitigation actions at the national level.

Level assessment refers to the assessment of the proportion of greenhouse gas emissions from each activity category as a percentage of the country’s total emissions, used to identify which categories are considered 'Key Categories' with high impact and should be prioritized in greenhouse gas inventory development.
